Q: How do I set up my profile in MySuccess?

Q: Do I need to use Blackboard for my course if I want to use MySuccess?
A: Yes. At this time, you will need to use Blackboard with your course to use MySuccess. You can conveniently use the data from your Blackboard grade book to determine which students should receive flags/kudos.

Q: How much additional time will it take me to use MySuccess?
A: It depends on how much you would like to use the tool with your course. For best results, faculty are encouraged to send flags and kudos after the first major assignment, following midterm examinations and projects and prior to finals. Instructors may send additional flags and kudos throughout the duration of the semester following any assignment.

Q: Will I get overloaded with email if I use this system?
A: No. MySuccess allows you to configure your email settings so that you can receive a daily digest that summarizes flag and kudo activity. Also, KU IT Client Consulting can assist with setting up a rule in Outlook, so emails from MySuccess are routed directly to a folder to view at your convenience.

Q. Who can clear flags?
A: It depends on the flag. Advisors and instructors have the ability to clear most flags.

Q: Will I have to personally raise a flag or kudos?
A: Yes, since you understand your course the best and in order to provide you with control of the messages sent to your students, faculty will manually raised flags and kudos.

Q: How do I set up my Blackboard course so I can use MySuccess Early Warning?
A: Blackboard courses automatically feed to MySuccess with no configuration needed by faculty.

Q: How will students access MySuccess Early Warning and Connect Appointment Scheduler?
A: Students can access MySuccess Early Warning and Connect Appointment Scheduler from two locations. Students may simply login to Blackboard and select MySuccess from the menu options on the left. Or, students may login to the myKU portal and choose MySuccess from the Academics tab.

Q: What is my role for MySuccess?
A: Advisors use the flags and kudos sent to their students by faculty members as indications of students' progress in their courses and reach out to students who are at-risk of not satisfactorily completing their course.

Q: How much time should I allocate to monitoring my students and making interventions?
A: Faculty send manual flags and kudos to students who are performing well, improving their performance and who are at-risk of not satisfactorily completing their course. It is good practice for advisors to schedule time in advance following midterms and before finals to monitor the flags and kudos sent to their caseload of students and to make appropriate interventions.

Q: What type of interventions do I make?
A: Advisors will use the MySuccess program as a tool for connecting with students who are at-risk for not satisfactorily completing their course. Advisors will refer students to appropriate University resources to help students get back-on-track in their courses. A students unique MySuccess Network and the larger University-wide Success Network provide a catalog of resources available to KU students.

Q: When do advisors make interventions?
A: Advisors use the MySuccess email digests as prompts for reaching out to at-risk students for a conversation regarding a student's performance and opportunities for improving academic performance. It is the practice for advisors to provide students with an opportunity to resolve the issue on their own, by meeting with their faculty members, reaching out to the advisor first, or seeking out on-campus resources. When students have not taken the initiative to resolve the flag on their own, advisors will reach out to students.

Q: How will students access MySuccess Early Warning and Connect Online Appointment Scheduler?
A: Students can access MySuccess Early Warning and Connect Appointment Scheduler from two locations. Students may simply login to Blackboard and select MySuccess from the menu options on the left. Or, students may login to the myKU portal and choose MySuccess from the Academics tab.

Q: How will students make an appointment with me using the Connect Appointment Scheduler?

Q: If a parent has a student's Blackboard login, can they see their student's MySuccess data?
A: We encourage students to keep their login information confidential and we ask that parents begin a conversation with their student regarding his/her academic progress before accessing this data. However, parents who have their student's Blackboard login can access their student's MySuccess data.

Q: Can flags be used in the same way as an academic notice?
A: Flags and kudos are notification types a student may receive from an instructor who has chosen to use MySuccess. Flags are warning signs meant to encourage students to reverse their current momentum in a course. Kudos are positive indicators letting students know they are performing well in class or improving their performance. Flags and kudos will not be posted in the myKU portal Advising Tool as academic notices and will not become part of a students permanent record. All flags and kudos will be removed at the end of each term.

Q: Does my instructor use MySuccess?
A: Instructors may choose to use MySuccess in their course. You should ask your instructor if he/she will be using MySuccess to communicate your academic performance to you throughout the semester.

Q: How will I receive a flag or kudos?
A: Flags are warning signs that you are underperforming in the class. Kudos are positive indicators letting you know that you are performing well in this course. Your instructor will send you a flag/kudos based on your coursework.  You will receive notification of a flag/kudos in your KU email account.  You can choose to have your notifications sent to a new location by adjusting your settings in your MySuccess profile.

Q: What do I do when I receive a flag or kudos?
A: Your first step when you receive a flag is to contact your instructor for more information regarding the reason you received the flag and for information to improve your academic performance. You may also find it beneficial to speak with your assigned academic advisor or with an office listed in your Success Network. If you receive a kudos, there is no action required on your part.
